Zulu Time Converter
Convert Zulu time (UTC) to local time in any time zone, or local time to Zulu, with the time group used in weather reports and a warning when a clock change makes a time ambiguous.
Free · runs in your browser · nothing is uploaded
The Zulu time converter changes a time between Zulu (UTC) and the local time in any time zone your browser knows, in either direction. Choose Zulu to local or Local to Zulu, pick a date, type the time and choose a zone. The result gives the Zulu time, the local time with its abbreviation and UTC offset, the day-hour-minute group used in METAR and TAF reports, and a table of all 24 hours of that day in your zone.
You can type the time as 1430, 14:30, 1430Z or as a weather-report group such as 251430Z. When a clock change makes a local time impossible or ambiguous, the converter says so instead of guessing.

How to use the Zulu time converter
- Choose the direction: Zulu to local if you start with a UTC time, Local to Zulu if you start with a local time.
- Pick the date. In Zulu to local mode it is the UTC date, in Local to Zulu mode the local date.
- Type the time: 1430, 14:30 or 1430Z. A six-digit group such as 251430Z also sets the day of the month to 25.
- Choose the zone with one of the buttons (US Eastern, Central, Mountain, Pacific, Alaska, Hawaii, London, Paris, Tokyo, Sydney, Dubai, India) or from the full list of zones.
- Read the Zulu time, the local time with its abbreviation and offset, the weather-report group and the ISO 8601 form. “Copy result” copies a one-line summary.
- Read any yellow note. It appears when the local time does not exist, happens twice, or when the clocks in that zone change on the date.
- Use the 24-row table to see every UTC hour of the date in your zone. The row where the offset changes is flagged.
“Now” fills in the current UTC date and time and switches to Zulu to local mode. The address of the page keeps your choices once you change a field, so you can bookmark a conversion or send it to someone.
What is Zulu time?
Zulu time is Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) written with a Z after the time. 1430Z is 14:30 UTC. Zulu is the phonetic-alphabet word for the letter Z, and the time is never adjusted for daylight saving. Aviation weather reports use it so that observers and pilots in different zones read the same clock.
In a METAR the six-digit group 251430Z is the day of the month and the time: the first two digits are the date and the last four are the time in UTC. A TAF issue time and valid periods use UTC too. A period that ends at midnight is written 24, so 2518/2624 ends at the end of day 26.
How do I convert Zulu to local time?
Add the zone’s UTC offset to the Zulu time, using the offset in force on that date. New York is UTC-4 in July and UTC-5 in January, so 1430Z is 10:30 EDT on 1 July 2026 and 09:30 EST on 15 January 2026. If the result passes midnight, change the date by one day.
| Zulu time | Zone and date | Local time |
|---|---|---|
| 1430Z | New York, 1 July 2026 | 10:30 EDT (UTC-04:00) |
| 1430Z | New York, 15 January 2026 | 09:30 EST (UTC-05:00) |
| 0300Z | Los Angeles, 1 July 2026 | 20:00 PDT on 30 June (UTC-07:00) |
| 1430Z | India, any date | 20:00 (UTC+05:30) |
| 0000Z | Tokyo, any date | 09:00 (UTC+09:00) |
Local to Zulu works the other way: 08:00 EDT on 4 July 2026 in New York is 1200Z.
What happens at daylight saving changes?
When clocks go forward, one hour of local time does not exist. When they go back, one hour happens twice. The converter flags both and shows the result in Zulu, which stays unambiguous.
- US, 8 March 2026: clocks jump from 02:00 EST to 03:00 EDT at 0700Z. 02:30 does not exist in New York; the converter shows 03:30 EDT, which is 0730Z.
- US, 1 November 2026: 01:30 in New York happens twice, at 0530Z (EDT) and at 0630Z (EST).
- Europe, 29 March and 25 October 2026: the change is at 0100Z. Paris 02:30 does not exist on 29 March (03:30 CEST is 0130Z). On 25 October, 02:30 in Paris is 0030Z (CEST) and again 0130Z (CET), and 01:30 in London is 0030Z (BST) and again 0130Z (GMT).
- Sydney: on 4 October 2026 02:30 does not exist (03:30 AEDT is 1630Z on 3 October). On 5 April 2026 02:30 happens twice, at 1530Z and 1630Z on 4 April.
What does 251430Z mean in a METAR?
It is the 25th day of the month at 14:30 UTC. The month is not stated, so the converter uses the month of the date you picked and replaces the day with 25. Enter the group in Zulu to local mode to see when the report was made in your time.

Questions from readers
Does Zulu time change with daylight saving?
No. Zulu time is UTC and never changes, so 1430Z is always the same instant. Local zones such as New York change, which is why 1430Z is 10:30 in July and 09:30 in January.
Is Zulu the same as UTC and GMT?
Zulu and UTC are the same time. London shows GMT in winter and BST in summer, and the converter shows which applies on the date you pick.
How do I convert 1800Z to EST or EDT?
Choose US Eastern and type 1800Z. On 15 January 2026 the converter gives 13:00 EST, and on 1 July 2026 it gives 14:00 EDT.
What does hour 24 mean in a TAF?
Midnight at the end of a valid period. A period that starts at midnight is written 00. A 24-hour TAF issued at 00Z on the 9th is valid 0900/0924.
Why does the converter warn about a time?
Because on a day when clocks change, a local time may not exist or may happen twice. The warning shows the Zulu times so you can pick the right one.
Can the converter be wrong about a recent rule change?
It uses the rules in your browser. If a country changed its clock rules after your browser was built, the result for a later date could be off. Check dates near a recent change.
